Worker Term: Full-Time, Permanent Reports to: Health and Wellness Manager Hours: Up to 35 hours per week
Compensation: $27.47 to $30.22 hourly,
Benefits: Health/Dental and RSP after 3 months
Job Summary:
The Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Cultural Connection Worker plays a key role in preserving, promoting, and strengthening Nisga’a culture, language, and traditions within the community. This position supports cultural programming, community engagement, and the integration of Nisga’a values into services and initiatives, fostering a deeper connection to heritage for Nisga’a citizens.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate cultural programs, workshops, and events that celebrate Nisga’a traditions, history, and language.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate Nisga'a language classes
Advocate for the preservation and revitalization of the Nisga’a language through educational programs and community engagement.
Work closely with the Terrace Nisga’a Elders Association and Gitlaxdax Sayt Kiĺim Goothl Nisga’a by providing administrative support and building accessibility as an In-Kind donation from GNTS
Work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to share and document cultural teachings and practices.
Coordinating General Membership activities and events for the community
Support community initiatives working toward meeting the Society's mandate.
Maintain program records, tracks attendance and initiates evaluative feedback from participants.
Foster an environment of inclusion and community participation.
Seek additional funding sources and grants for existing and new proposed programs
Support the integration of Nisga’a culture into community services, educational initiatives, and outreach programs.
Organize cultural activities such as drumming, storytelling, traditional arts and crafts, and language revitalization efforts.
Provide guidance and support to individuals seeking to reconnect with their Nisga’a heritage.
Collaborate with schools, youth programs, and community organizations to promote cultural awareness and inclusion.
Maintain accurate records and reports on program participation, success stories, and areas for improvement.
Assist in securing funding and grants to support cultural initiatives.
Represent Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society at cultural events and meetings as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Strong knowledge of Nisga’a culture, traditions, history, and governance.
Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly in cultural preservation or community engagement roles.
Ability to facilitate workshops and programs that engage diverse age groups.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust within the community.
Experience in event planning, program coordination, or teaching is an asset.
Proficient use of standard Microsoft applications required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening, may be required.
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
Fluency or proficiency in the Nisga’a language is an asset.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Experience in grant writing or fundraising for cultural programs.
Knowledge of digital tools for cultural documentation and storytelling.
Working Conditions:
Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate cultural events and community programming.
Travel within the community and surrounding areas may be necessary.

Job Summary and Duties:
Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Manager, the Community Support Worker will promote the health and wellness of GNTS membership by supporting and delivering quality programs, education, and establishing cultural connections. This role will provide advocacy for community resources and facilitate connections between membership and existing services within the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring consistent dialogue between GNTS and community members.
Providing guidance and mentorship to GNTS members within a culturally inclusive framework.
Supporting and advocating for membership within various capacities to improve overall health and wellness while working collaboratively with existing services/agencies in the Terrace/Thornhill region.
Engaging with community elders, shut-ins, youth aging out of care, low-income families, and high-risk individuals.
Provide direct support to individuals and families in need, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate services.
Organize and facilitate community programs, workshops, and cultural activities that promote well-being and community engagement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, Elders, and service providers.
Support individuals experiencing mental health challenges, by connecting them with resources and support networks.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation as required.
Work with Cultural Connections Worker to Advocate for culturally appropriate services and ensure that Gitlaxdax Nisga’a traditions and values are incorporated into all aspects of service delivery.
Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Performing other related activities and duties as required.

Certificate or diploma in Social Work, Community Support, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Knowledge of Nisga’a culture, traditions, language, and governance.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and an understanding of the challenges they face.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with community members.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally sensitive manner.
Experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or advocacy is an asset.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening, may be required.
